In light of evolving healthcare trends in California, the Orange County Business Journal spoke with Emmanuelle Schwartzman, PharmD, regarding pressing issues in healthcare, such as persistent barriers for patients, inadequate insurance coverage, and gaps in health literacy.

Schwartzman spoke on healthcare leaders’ exact roles in navigating these challenges and advocated for leaders to be empathetic, adaptable, and practical communicators who prioritize collaboration through innovative partnerships beyond traditional healthcare sectors. “Empathy is key in understanding patient needs and concerns,” Schwartzman remarked. “Ultimately, [healthcare leaders] must ask, ‘Will this benefit the patient?’ to ensure every decision prioritizes patient health and well-being.”

By advocating for improved healthcare access, such as supporting legislation including Senate Bill 40 for expanded coverage for insulin, Schwartzman discussed a necessary commitment to creating a more equitable and responsive healthcare system for all residents of Orange County and California.
