Chapman University School of Pharmacy (CUSP) held its 3rd annual Industry Event on April 4th, 2019: Application of USP Standards to Pharmaceuticals, Biopharmaceuticals, and Pharmacy Practice. This year, CUSP collaborated with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) whom CUSP has partnered for the last few years by co-hosting USP Southern California Discussion Group at Harry and Diane Rinker Health Science Campus.

The event started with workshops that many guests from executive leaders of local pharmaceutical businesses to scientists and pharmacy students attended. Followed by a cocktail reception, the evening featured the keynote speaker, Ronald T. Piervincenzi, Ph.D., CEO of USP, who talked about the “Role of Medicine Quality in Public Health Crises of Today.”

The annual Industry Event was first hosted in 2017 to build a bridge between CUSP and pharmaceutical industries in the local community. CUSP honored David E.I. Pyott, CBE, M.D. (Hon.,) former Chairman and CEO of Allergan Inc. at the inaugural event, and Alonza Cruse, Director of the Office of Pharmaceutical Quality Operations within the Office of Regulatory Affairs in the Food and Drug Administration in the second year. It has been a great platform providing ongoing educational experiences not only to CUSP members but local business leaders where they discuss the most recent updates from pharmaceutical industries as well as current research at CUSP, opening opportunities for collaboration and career for CUSP faculty, students, and alumni. With growing support from local industries, the annual Industry Event will continuously serve as a bridge between the school and local pharmaceutical businesses with more opportunities for engaging in discussion and education.
