Dr. Walter Piper’s Mission to Lure Swallows Back to San Juan Capistrano
May 11, 2012
The famous swallows of Mission San Juan Capistrano have gone missing in recent years, and it’s professor Walter Piper’s mission to lure them back to the historical nesting site. His efforts have recently become fruitful; he discovered a swallow breeding colony only 1/4 of a mile from the historic Mission. Details of his findings can be read about on the KPCC Radio website. The public access station recently did an hour long interview with Dr. Piper, just minutes after he found the nearby breeding colony.
Dr. Piper is a professor of Biological Sciences. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Harvard University and his Ph. D. in Biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
