FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE POSITION SUMMARY
The Level II Technical Writer is responsible for writing and publishing help systems, guides, and web content for a variety of audiences, with a focus on API documentation. Candidates for this position must possess excellent research skills, be able to organize their ideas, and be able to develop materials that communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. The ability to write simply, clearly and concisely is a must.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Develop and maintain high-quality documentation in support of ActivePDF product lines, including (but not limited to) help systems, user guides, web content, knowledge base articles, blog posts, customer bulletins, case studies, and white papers.
• Install and experiment with ActivePDF software from alpha stage through final release, learning and documenting functionality and user interface.
• Create screenshots and conceptual art as needed to illustrate procedures in documentation.
• Work closely with developers and members of the go-to-market team to understand both the technical details of the product and marketing benefits.
• Act as a customer advocate by contributing to product design and usability.
• Test the documentation against the use of product for accuracy and validity.
• Contribute to and adhere to the ActivePDF Technical Publications style guide, defining conventions of style and usage.
• Consider and plan for translation issues and techniques.
• Contribute to document design and page layout.
EDUCATIONAL AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
• B.S. in Computer Science (with a minor in English); or a B.A. in English, Journalism, Communication, or Technical Writing (with a minor in Computer Science); or equivalent experience.
• Working knowledge of desktop publishing software experience preferred (such as MadCap Flare, Adobe RoboHelp, Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Acrobat).
• Working knowledge of CSS/HTML/XHTML/XML.
PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES
For the technical writer to be successful in this position, it is highly desirable that the candidate have the following qualities, experience, and attributes:
❖ Three years of technical writing experience preferred.
❖ Experience in setting up and working with single-sourced and context-sensitive documentation; experience with working in XML source code is highly desirable.
❖ Experience working with a scripting language such as JavaScript or PHP, or a Windows-based programming language such as C#, Visual Basic or VBScript, including modifying sample programs to include in documentation is highly desirable.
❖ Strong time management and organizational skills are a must, as is the ability to work both independently (with minimal supervision) and as part of a team.
❖ An inquisitive mind, a love for writing, and a passion for learning!
