What excites you about this opportunity?
What excites me most about this company is how my values align with the company’s values. Deloitte values integrity, commitment to each other, and cultural diversity, which all play a crucial role in my daily life. Deloitte was my dream company being one of the Big Four accounting firms in the world. I can’t wait to start my professional career in accounting!
How did you strategize landing this internship?
Networking! Joining the Accounting Society played a significant role in being able to network with individuals at Deloitte. I went to their speaker event and spoke with the campus recruiter, Joel Pearson. The following day I received an email stating I was selected for the first round of interviews!
When I was selected, I shifted my focus to planning for the interview. I researched the company, wrote down potential questions that I could be asked, and made sure I wrote down my responses clearly and thoroughly to answer the questions effectively. I practiced answering the questions out loud to build up confidence when it came to the actual interview.
The first round was a recorded interview where I responded to questions. I was selected to participate in the second round of interviews, where I would be meeting with two senior employees. I made sure to research them to have an easier time creating conversation and wrote down questions for them after the interview.
I went in being myself and talking confidently about my experiences and what I learned from them and the intention to know more about them personally.
What advice do you have for anyone looking for an internship or job in this market?
My advice is to network with professionals as much as possible. There are plenty of resources at Chapman where everyone is willing to help you out. By doing this, you present yourself as someone who is driven to develop themselves and connect with others. Remember that you won’t always get a response. If you don’t receive a response, keep searching! You never know where you can potentially land.
Lastly, join business clubs! The Accounting Society was an excellent resource that helps many individuals find internships and connect with professionals, and it will only get better! I was selected to serve as Vice President of the Accounting Society for the 2022-2023 school year, so feel free to reach out to me if you are interested in being a part of our wonderful community or if you need any advice!
