March 6, 2023
Name: Lorenzo Paroline
Position: Internship in Risk & Financial Advisory
Company: Deloitte & Touche LLP (Deloitte)
Degree: B.S. Business Administration – Emphasis in Finance, Minor in Data Analytics
My name is Lorenzo Paroline. I am graduating a semester early at the conclusion of Spring 2024 with a B.S. in Business Administration with an Emphasis in Finance, and a Minor in Data Analytics. This upcoming Summer 2023, I will be interning at Deloitte & Touche LLP (Deloitte) in the Risk & Financial Advisory department based out of the San Diego office.
What excites you about this company/job?
I am extremely excited about the Deloitte company environment. In the Spring of 2022, Deloitte flew me to Westlake, Texas for their Deloitte National Leadership Conference, where I met hundreds of other amazing interns and full-time employees who I’m so excited to start my professional career with. I am also very excited about the room for growth within the company. Partners, principals, and current employees all express that Deloitte is a place for growth personally and professionally. Receiving a full-time offer of employment post internship and graduation is a major goal of mine.
How did you strategize landing this internship?
My biggest strategy was trying to start early. I found out that many of the big prestigious firms in the business industry start recruiting years before the actual start date of the position. I applied for my internship in February 2022, did two rounds of interviews that next month in March, and I received an offer in April 2022 for an internship starting June of 2023. It was a long time to wait but it helped me tremendously in landing the position.
Do you have career advice for anyone looking for an internship in this market?
The best advice I have is to utilize every ounce of help that Chapman has to offer. The network goes beyond just the school. Many professors here at Chapman have come from extremely successful careers with major client portfolios prior to teaching. I learned that they are more than willing to sit down with you and help, whether that’s recommending companies, getting you in contact with recruiters, or even helping prepare you for an interview. For business majors, the Career Advancement center sends out multi-weekly emails that have every internship opportunity that crosses their desks. This is actually where I found my Deloitte Internship opportunity and I’m very happy that I stayed consistent in reading their emails. Chapman also holds recruiting events here on campus where I have been able to meet 15 different firms in one night. This is really where I was able to zone in on what types of industries and companies I liked and which ones I didn’t. Lastly, Handshake is the best platform for applying for jobs and internships. It’s very easy and efficient to apply as well as some opportunities are exclusive to Handshake that you won’t find elsewhere.
