My name is Carson LeSage, and I am a Career Peer Advisor at the Office of Career and Professional Development, double majoring in Psychology and Philosophy. Drop-ins and I are like Ride or Die, super serious.

What is a “Drop-In”?

Let’s start off with the basics. What is this magical resource that I speak of?

DROP-INS… (echo) Drop-ins… (echo) drop-ins… (echo) drop-ins (wait, can you say that again)

Wait, can you say that again – did you guys hear that echo because I sure did.

Ok ok, all jokes aside, a drop-in is a brief 15-minute (can go longer if needed) career meeting with a Peer Advisor (like my wonderful self). During this meeting, you will be able to discuss career-related questions with a student (just like yourself) who will be up-to-date with all the latest career lingo. It is essentially a great resource to talk about careers and jobs and all that super scary stuff in a nice calm, casual way – ouuu quickly also!

When can one take advantage of this wonderful, amazing, marvelous, stunning, shocking resource?

Lucky for you, we have a super insightful and easy schedule to follow!

Spring 2023 Drop-In Schedule

Monday – Friday, 11 AM – 1 PM

Boom!!! That’s it. I know, crazy, huh.

The same time every weekday, and I mean like, every weekday. How easy and convenient is that?!

Drop In Topics

When it comes to talking about career, I put together a list just for you on exactly what questions we can answer. Yeah that’s right, a list just just made for you, tailored specifically for you just like how a resume and cover letter should be tailored for every employer.

See? Boom. Look at the type of advice and information you can receive from us! The drop-in topics follow:

  • Resume review (office fav)
  • Cover letter review
  • LinkedIn review
  • Handshake tips and tricks
  • Job and internship search (another office fav)
  • Internship registration questions
  • Review career resources (oh and another office fav)
  • Drafting thank you, acceptance, and/or declination letters

What to Expect When You Come in to Use this Precious Resource

I am going to approach this as if I am briefing you on a super-secret mission to save the world, so please bear with me.

Step 1: Locate the Career Office!

It’s the green house located next to the Fowler Law School, and also directly across the street from Demille Hall. If the landmarks are too confusing, we can just look at the address: 342 N. Glassell Street, Orange, CA 92866.

We probably should have just looked at the address…

Step 2: Arrive at the office.

This step will only work if you arrive at the right time. Remember, you must execute this plan precisely anytime between 11 AM and 1 PM. Once you are in the office, notify the lovely person at the front desk that you are here for a drop-in and what topic you would like to cover.

FUN FACT: This person may even be me depending on the day!

Even if you’re unsure on what career support you would like to discuss, we are always happy to help!

Step 3: Check in and chill.

If Step 2 is successful, you will be checked in and can wait for a peer career advisor on those super comfy red couches (I heard they are comfy through the grapevines).

Step 4: Meet the Career Peer Advisor!

A lovely career peer advisor will arrive and introduce themselves, then bring you into the back office where the drop in takes place (this can also be me depending on the day).

Step 5: Gather intel.

Ask questions and gather the necessary intel. This should be an easy, quick, and surprising fun operation!

Step 6: CU later and share your experience!

Once you have collected all the necessary intel, you can leave the scene and call it a successful mission. Then, you can share to everybody how quick and easy this mission was, so that others can also come and gather important information too!

Whew that was a lot of fun and helpful information!

Was that as fun for you as it was for me? Probably not, but I am okay with that. I want to end this whole blog off with a simple reminder to just come to the Career Office! We have so many awesome resources ready for you to take advantage of. Even if you are not currently searching for a job or internship, it’s still extremely beneficial to stop by and a get a hands-on experience for what we can offer. You also have the opportunity to meet our amazing staff of student workers who are all passionate about helping you guys out.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my first ever blog, and I hope to see you in the Career Office soon!!!
