Meet Isaac Storms Member of the School of Communication Student Advisory Board
November 27, 2024
What’s up, everyone!? I’m Isaac Storms, a third-year transfer student from Seattle, WA. I’m majoring in communication with a focus on leadership. I chose Chapman because I wanted a change of scenery from home and fell in love with the beautiful SoCal location. The resources, programs, and opportunities here really excited me, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it all. On top of this, being close to the beach, amazing food, and downtown LA grabbed my attention, along with the job opportunities available.
I’ve always been intrigued by communication, and I knew I would be a part of the communication department as soon as I decided to transfer. I find it fascinating how communication influences our everyday lives, and my personal experiences have deepened my curiosity about the subject. My time working with the Seattle Mariners in guest experience over the last three summers, along with my role at Climate Pledge Arena, has given me valuable insights into sports operations. These experiences have not only fueled my passion for sports communication but also helped me envision my future career.
I’m half Japanese and have grown up visiting my family in Shizuoka, Japan, during winter breaks. Those experiences have been incredibly meaningful, allowing me to grow up in and appreciate another culture. Living in Japan has opened my eyes to different communication styles and cultural norms, embracing the idea that context shapes meaning. I cherish the time spent with my family and friends there, especially the delicious food!
Leadership is another passion of mine. I took my first leadership class in middle school, and it was a transformative experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I was captivated by team building, collaboration, and the importance of character and communication in leadership. This sparked a flame in my heart that has stuck with me forever. As I’ve grown, I’ve adapted leadership traits that align with my environments and developed a passion for serving, supporting, and uplifting others in unique ways. This desire to help others is what led me to focus on leadership in my studies.
I decided to apply for the Student Advisory Board to get more involved in the School of Communication. I believe this opportunity aligns perfectly with my passions, allowing me to gain experience while being a mentor and helping others succeed. I want my time at Chapman to be meaningful, leaving a positive legacy that influences those around me. I’m excited to begin this brand new chapter in my life and meet new people in the School of Communication!
