Internship Blog Post RSA Entertainment
March 14, 2025
My name is Roxy Matos, and I am a sophomore at Chapman University, majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Leadership. Over the interterm, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with RSA Entertainment in Burbank, California, as a Public Relations and Social Media Intern. This experience not only gave me a firsthand look at the entertainment industry but also allowed me to apply what I’ve learned in my coursework to a real-world setting.
I discovered this internship through a fellow Chapman student last semester. RSA Entertainment appealed to me because of its focus on public relations and social media, areas I’m passionate about exploring further in my career. My primary responsibilities included supporting the PR and Social Media Managers’ daily tasks. This encompassed creating content for social media platforms, assisting with client outreach, and contributing to brainstorming sessions for upcoming campaigns. I also honed my skills in planning and time management, juggling multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
One of the most exciting parts of the internship was when I got the opportunity to visit Paramount Studios for a screening of the Bob Marley movie. The tickets were provided to me by RSA, and it was a great opportunity to see what goes into making these movies. This hands-on experience deepened my understanding of how public relations and social media intersect to build brands and connect with audiences.
Several communication courses helped me excel in this role. For instance, SCC 100 gave me a solid foundation in crafting press releases and understanding audience targeting, which I applied while assisting with client communications. Additionally, the principles of social media strategy I learned in SCC 100 were directly relevant to my work, especially when developing content calendars and analyzing engagement metrics.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of adaptability and teamwork in a fast-paced industry. A particular success story involved getting a last-minute booking that had to be uploaded that day, yet other posts were already being sent out. Being able to delegate posts when it would get the most attention from audiences was a major skill that I learned. Seeing my contributions make a tangible impact was incredibly rewarding and affirmed my passion for this field.
Interning at RSA Entertainment was a transformative experience that enhanced my skills and clarified my career aspirations. I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to continue applying what I’ve learned as I pursue a future in communication.
