What is Chapman Radio?
Chapman Radio is an award-winning college radio station consistently named one of the top 20 in the country by the Princeton Review. Chapman Radio is committed to delivering exceptional, student-run programming and strives to maintain its reputation as one of the best college radio stations. Chapman Radio has received multiple nominations and awards from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System, including Best Station Promo in 2021, Best Talk Program for “You’re Not Like Other Girls” in 2022, Best Show Promotional Poster for “Girls on Film” in 2023 and Best Comedy Program for “Young Dumb Geeked” in 2024.
How do you join Chapman Radio?
You join Chapman Radio by first enrolling in COM 108. The COM 108 class is where students receive training on how to use the station equipment and get feedback on their show. Once the training and class are complete, students receive a Chapman Radio Broadcast License that allows them to keep their show going semester after semester. The great thing about Chapman Radio is that they do not tell you what to broadcast. Instead, it is up to the student to develop their weekly, hour-long show. After taking COM 108, students roll over into being club members. Chapman Radio does not require that the class be taken every semester. After students have their broadcast license, they are welcome to be a Chapman Radio DJ while at Chapman. As a club member, their primary responsibilities include continuing to broadcast their show and attending the monthly club/class meetings. These meetings always happen on the first Wednesday of each month.
Who can have a show?
Shows are open to Chapman students, staff, or faculty members.
How many Chapman Radio shows are there?
The number of shows and DJs varies from semester to semester, but on average, Chapman Radio has about 70+ shows and 200 DJs. They are only limited by the number of shows they can have by the number of hours in a week!
