Meet Varenna Morris! Student Advisory Board Member
November 27, 2024
Hello! My name is Varenna Morris, I am a sophomore from San Diego, California with a Strategic Communication major and a Creative and Cultural Industries minor.

Me and my friends enjoying our time together at an Outdoors
Club meeting!
Film has impacted my life since I was really young, so it comes as a surprise to most people when they hear I’m not a Dodge student. As a little kid, my grandma showed me “The Wizard of Oz,” and I was immediately hooked. I still watch one classic movie a week with my dad over FaceTime! I took many film classes in high school and created many of my own; it was what I was widely known for. But as amazing as Dodge is, I feel the School of Communication had a lot more to offer me when looking at applying to Chapman as a whole. When coming to Chapman for “Panther for a Day,” everyone I met from the School of Communication welcomed me with open arms, making me fall in love with the school and everything it stands for, along with the future career opportunities it provides.

You can always find me at Contra studying!
Fast forward to now, and I’m so happy I made the decision to go forward with SCC! The School of Communication is always there for me to give me the resources and education I need to succeed within the realms of PR, advertising, marketing, and company communication; the avenues in which I am interested in going down. I chose to apply to the School of Communication Student Advisory Board because during “Admitted Students Day,” all the people on the board at the time seemed genuinely happy to answer my questions and made me feel welcomed at Chapman. These advisors, in the end, are what made me choose Chapman as my college. I knew then that I wanted to be that same person to prospective students for years to come.
Those advisors, who I now get to call my friends and colleagues, have taught me so much about the different opportunities at Chapman and how I can help others. Some of the involvements I’m a part of are: The Outdoors Club, Chapman Radio, and The Underground Poetry Editorial. Along with this, I’m graduating early, and have already interned abroad for two weeks at the Cannes Film Festival in France!
When I’m not busy with school or my various involvements, I love to watch and analyze movies, read fantasy novels, and write poetry! I’m a worldwide traveler (30 countries and counting!), and value all time spent with friends and family. You can always find me at Rutabegorz, Contra, or looking for a new thrifted find in The Circle!
