Community members are invited to join the festivities as Chapman University hosts its annual Chapman Family Homecoming Celebration Friday and Saturday, October 6-7.

New to this year’s lineup is “Socktober Saturday,” a community-wide almost free pancake breakfast that will kick off Chapman Family Community Service Day. Admission to the breakfast is a pack of new, unopened socks or underwear to benefit clients of Mercy House Living Centers, which recently opened a shelter for homeless families in the City of Orange.

Mercy House is always in need of socks and underwear for its clients. Donations of any size for women, men or children are appreciated. Travel-sized personal hygiene items and laundry detergent are also welcome. If you would like make a donation to Mercy House, please contact us.

The breakfast will be served Saturday, October 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. on the Bert C. Williams Mall in front of Memorial Hall.

More fun heats up Saturday afternoon when the 8th Annual Chili Cook Off opens on the beautiful Bette and Wylie Aitken Arts Plaza in front of Musco Center for the Arts. From 4 to 6 p.m., sample unique chili, listen to music, and explore the Student Zone and College Tailgate, which features a hub of activities, games, prizes, and fun for all ages, showcasing campus programs, services, and colleges. Chili tasting tickets will be available on site for a nominal fee.
