First Cut LA 2016 A Huge Success
September 22, 2016
On Wednesday, September 21, Dodge College held the 2016 Leo Freedman Foundation First Cut Screening at the Directors Guild of America Theater in Los Angeles.
The event showcased five of the best films from last year, with two of them being Student Academy Award winners in the Narrative category (Rocket and It’s Just A Gun) and another a Finalist in the Documentary category (Gardeners of the Forest).
First Cut has always served as a way for prospective students to see what Dodge is capable of, and this was no different. Hundreds of prospective students and their parents arrived for the opening reception, where in-coming students mingled with alumni and staff to learn a bit more about the school. Each of the films had someone from their team in attendance to chat with the guests, and to give them a taste of what life at Dodge College is like.
After, the crowd made their way into the theater for a brief introduction by Dean Bob Bassett before watching the five films. At the conclusion of the event, a reception was held in the lobby, where the filmmakers and prospective students yet again were able to chat.
Having your film show at First Cut is always a huge honor, and our filmmakers are thrilled to share them with prospective students. Everyone who attended walked away with a good idea of what Dodge is all about, and the quality of work that the students do. If you missed out on First Cut LA, don’t worry! There are a few more opportunities to see the films, as we make the rounds in New York City, San Francisco, and in Orange. Please joins us for one of our other dates by checking out the events here.
