Dr. Jeff Duncan Andrade presented “ Note to Educators: Hope Required When Growing Roses in Concrete” to a standing room only Chapman’s College of Educational Studies community on March 18, 2011. After a riveting presentation linking post traumatic stress syndrome with conditions in urban school, doctoral students conducted a lively fireside chat. Dr. Duncan Andrade is an associate professor of Raza Studies and Education Administration and Interdisciplinary Studies at San Francisco State University. In addition to these duties, he continues as a high school teacher in East Oakland where for the past 18 years he has practiced and studied the use of critical pedagogy in urban schools.
