The College of Educational Studies’ Athletic Training Education Program was honored at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association 62nd Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium in New Orleans in late June, 2011. Under the leadership of Dr. Jason Bennett, the ATEP won the prestigious Cramer Professional Development Award for student development and travel opportunities. Competing with over 300 undergraduate athletic training programs, the Chapman Athletic Training Education Program highlighted their long history of studying abroad for athletic training majors in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Taiwan. The award for $2,000 allowed two AT majors to attend the national convention in New Orleans. In addition, to receiving the travel money, Karleen Smith and Jon Sung won $2,300 scholarships for their academic achievements through the NATA Foundation Scholarship Program. Also, a third AT student, who was unable to attend, Cody Mansfield, won the Deloss Brubaker Award for Student Writing with his original case study submission and received a $1,000 writing award.
