Dr. Carl Cohn Visits to Discuss State Educational Policy
November 21, 2016
Director of the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence, Dr. Carl Cohn, visited the Chapman University campus Tuesday, November 15 to discuss California’s funding formula and governance process embedded in the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).
In partnership with Orange Unified School District, CES brought together local school board members, superintendents, principals, teachers community members and nonprofits to the table to address and help create the annual Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP.)
More than 70 attended to hear Dr. Cohn speak, before roundtable sessions and a question and answer session were held. Questions discussed during the roundtable sessions included:
How has LCFF/LCAP changed your school, your school district, or your county office?
How are the voices of parents, guardians and students being employed in establishing local district spending priorities?
What evidence is available so far that a multiple measures approach to accountability is better than a single number or grade?
To what extent, if any, are university preparation programs in teaching, counseling, and leading beginning to change to support CA’s new accountability system?
How does the LCFF/LCAP change how the Boards of Education influence and prioritize programs and expenditures?
Dr. Cohn was eager to gain insight from attendees. To learn more about the LCFF, visit http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/lc/lcfffaq.asp
