Our challenge was addressing the lack of fun educational products that teach about illness and disability in children’s media. This is a problem because kids need to understand the basics about common medical conditions to help them accommodate their classmates and help them empathize with their friends. Existing educational media tends to be unengaging for kids, like wordy books or lengthy videos, or does not put these conditions into words or scenarios young children can comprehend. Our project combines the best parts of those resources by making an entertaining product that keeps them engaged through a fun and interactive story that uses basic, but informational vocabulary. We utilized a software called Unity to develop our project that depicts common scenarios regarding food allergy awareness in elementary schools that kids could relate to, and it tests their knowledge through fun and simple games incorporated throughout the story.
