IS&T will transition from McAfee to Proofpoint for e-mail protection services at 9am on Friday, January 20th. With this new service, we expect to benefit from better spam detection, reduced false-positives, and greater mail flow visibility.

What to Expect:
Once the change is made, mail from external senders will be scanned by Proofpoint’s  servers before arriving in your Exchange mailbox. Messages detected as spam will be quarantined and summarized in a daily digest delivered to your inbox.  ProofPoint provides an enhanced set of functions in the daily digest.  These enhancements give faculty and staff the flexibility to manage their quarantine entirely through e-mail.
Release
Delivers the message to your Inbox. Automatically reports that the message was not spam.
Safelist
Delivers the message to your Inbox, adds the sender to your Safe Senders List, automatically reports that the message was not spam. Future messages from this sender will not be sent to your Quarantine and will be delivered to your inbox even if the message is determined to be spam.
Not Spam
Reports to the system administrators that the message was not spam. Proofpoint will update its scanning engine about the message characteristics, and it will not be quarantined in the future.
