Chapman Data Encryption Safeguarding University Devices
November 5, 2018
Encryption is one of the best tools used to keep information safe. IS&T is committed to keeping all sensitive data safe. When a file is encrypted, all the data is transformed into a combination of random shapes, numbers, characters, etc. thus rendering the file unreadable. As a result of the encryption, when a computer is stolen or lost, an unauthorized user cannot get access to the computer data.
Over the coming weeks, IS&T will be working to update ALL campus desktop and laptop computers with our latest data encryption software. Once the computer has been updated, only authorized users will have access to information stored on the encrypted computer hard drive.
