How many of you have ever run into a situation where you needed a computer for an important project and did not have access to one?  Well IS&T and Student Engagement partnered together and came up with a vision, and that was “Laptop to Go”.   In April 2016, that vision became a reality as the very first “Laptop to Go” kiosk was installed in Argyros Forum under the main spiral staircase, near the student union desk on the first floor.  Now all current Chapman University students have 24/7 access to laptops at no additional cost to the student.

So How Does This Work?

Students simply swipe their Chapman ID at the kiosk, enter their pass code, and chose either PC or Mac laptop. They will have a 4-hour window to use and return the laptop to its original cradle in the kiosk.

Since its implementation in early April 2016, Laptop-to-Go has seen high level of popularity. According the information polled in the Laptop-to-Go reporting, we are able to see very valuable insights as to when students are utilizing this new system.  Below are some interesting stats from the first full month of use.

Total # of available laptops:  12

  • 6 PC
  • 6 Mac

Average Checkouts per day: 26.5

Average Checkouts per week: 176

Total Laptop Checkouts (April 4-April 29): 742
