Professor Marisa Cianciarulo appointed interim dean of Fowler School of Law

Professor Marisa Cianciarulo has been appointed to the position of interim dean of the Chapman University Fowler School of Law, effective December 1. Dean Cianciarulo, who joined Chapman in 2006 as a member of the faculty and is the founding director of the Bette and Wylie Aitken Family Protection Clinic, has served as the law school’s associate dean for academic affairs since 2017.
A specialist in immigration law with a human rights focus, Cianciarulo has taught a range of courses, including Civil Procedure, Family Protection Clinic, Gender & Sexual Orientation & the Law, Immigration & Refugee Law & Policy (undergraduate Honors Program), Refugee Law, and Remedies. Her research focuses on vulnerable immigrant populations and the intersection of gender and immigration. She is a 2017 recipient of the Valerie Scudder Award and the 2010 recipient of the Law School Professor of the Year Award.
Cianciarulo will assume this position as the Fowler School of Law’s current dean, Matt Parlow, begins his new role as executive vice president and chief advancement officer for Chapman University. The process leading to the recruitment of a permanent dean is currently underway.
