Earlier this week, we shared how happy the Leatherby Libraries is to be participating in Chapman University’s Orientation Fall 2020, even though Orientation looks very different this year. One key change to this year’s Orientation is that the Welcome Ceremony, this year’s version of the Opening Convocation, will be livestreamed this Saturday evening, August 29th, at 7 p.m. PDT.

We hope you join us tuning in for the Welcome Ceremony Saturday evening, but if you’re feeling nostalgia or curiosity about Opening Convocation in other years, we’ve got good news – the Chapman University Digital Commons now has a page dedicated to photos from Opening Convocation ceremonies from years past, spanning from 1997 to 2014. Take a peek at speakers from years past, and see if you can spot any familiar faces! The cover photo for this blog post shows fireworks lighting up the sky over Holly & David Wilson Field at the end of Opening Convocation in 2014.

In addition to the Opening Convocation photos, we’ve also recently added a collection of photos from different Homecomings, from 1998 to 2008. Check out how Homecoming traditions have changed over the years!

Pick your favorite picture from a previous Opening Convocation, set it up as your background, and tune in with the Leatherby Libraries and the rest of the Chapman University community this Saturday evening to watch the Welcome Ceremony and raise a glass to the Chapman Class of 2024!
