Voting 101 Everything You Need to Know About Casting Your Ballot
October 31, 2024
The Panther recently highlighted Chapman University’s dedicated efforts to boost student participation in elections, which has resulted in the Chapman student body being labeled one of the most civically engaged campuses in Southern California (Kang, Hanna, “Chapman University holds voter registration bash for students promoting electoral engagement,” The Orange County Register, 2024, October 17). Inspired by this recognition, Leatherby Libraries has curated a display to equip the Chapman community with vital resources on the history and importance of voting in America. We aim to empower students with the knowledge needed to make informed choices in the voting booth.
With Election Day 2024 approaching, we invite you to visit this display, where you’ll find books and materials that help you navigate the voting process. A featured title is Duty and Choice: The Evolution of the Study of Voting and Voters by Peter John Loewen and Daniel Rubenson. This work delves into voting trends and underscores the impact of individual votes on election outcomes, inspiring readers to actively engage in democracy.
This display was made in partnership with the Department of Student Engagement, which has organized various election-related events under their CU at the Booths initiative. This program aims to increase student voter registration and foster participation in elections. The Department of Student Engagement will host a Vote Center at Chapman University in AF 119. You can drop off your mail-in ballots and vote in person starting Saturday, November 2nd.
Located at the Reference Desk on the First Floor of Leatherby Libraries, this display also offers pocket constitutions and American flags, courtesy of the Department of Student Engagement. We sincerely thank the Department of Student Engagement for generously providing this display’s pocket constitutions and flags.
The display was curated by Leatherby Libraries Student Employees Isabella Piechota ’25 and Arianna Tillman ’25.
