From Strings to Stories Celebrating National Guitar Month with a New Display
April 23, 2025
Calling all music lovers and guitarists! Visit the Leatherby Libraries’ newest display, exploring the history of guitars in honor of International Guitar Month. Whether you play the guitar or want to learn more about the instrument’s history, the display has various titles that might pique your interest!
The titles featured in this display include selections about the history and stories about guitarists! A notable highlight is The Evolution of Fingerstyle Guitar: Classical Guitar History and Repertoire from the 16th to the 20th Century by Laurence Juber, who is an English musician, fingerstyle guitarist, and studio musician who performed as part of Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles band, Wings. His book explores different fingerstyle techniques and how they developed and changed from the 16th to the 20th century, focusing on the classical guitar.
Another title from the display is Guitar Zero: The Science of Becoming Musical at Any Age by research psychologist Gary Marcus. Marcus documents his journey learning how to play the guitar while exploring aspects of music cognition and how critical life stages impact one’s ability to learn how to make music.
