Calling all Panthers who are passionate about writing!

Did you know the Leatherby Libraries’ “Stories on the Go!” initiative encourages Chapman students to submit their written works to the Leatherby Libraries’ Short Story Dispenser? Students can submit their original written works, including short stories and poetry, to be featured in the Short Story Dispenser.

How to Submit:

  • Visit the Short Story website and create an account using your Chapman email address.
  • Click the red “Write” button and enter your story or poem directly into the portal.
  • Save, close, and hit Submit when you’re ready.

Once you have submitted your story, our team will review the work and notify you if your work is selected to be in the Short Story Machine!

Submission Guidelines:

  • Length: Maximum of 8,000 characters (including spaces).
    • You can use all 8,000 character spaces if you write in paragraphs (prose style).
  • Format:
    • Poetry or line-based writing should keep line length to around 40 characters (including spaces) to fit the dispenser’s format. Longer lines may wrap.
    • Supported formatting includes bold, italic, underline, and left/center/right justification.
  • Genre: Submissions must be fictional. You’re welcome to draw inspiration from real life, but please fictionalize elements of your story to qualify.

We cannot wait to see everyone’s work!

For any questions about the submission process, please contact our English Librarian, Katherine Roth, at kroth@chapman.edu.

Happy Writing!
