The Junior Wang-Fradkin Professorship, Chapman University’s highest faculty award in recognition of exceptional merit in scholarly or creative activity Wang-Fradkin Professorships, was awarded to
Roman Buniy, Ph.D.
, assistant professor of physics, at the 21st Annual Chapman University Faculty Honors Convocation, held Friday, May 13, in the George H.W. Bush Conference Center.

The Junior Wang-Fradkin Professorship is a two-year monetary award to further teaching and scholarship. This and the Senior Wang-Fradkin Professorship were founded in memory of Hua-Cheng Wang, professor of political science, diplomat and expert on international law; and Cheng-Mei Fradkin, distinguished teacher, scholar and administrator.

The Valerie Scudder Award, another high honor bestowed by the university, was awarded to Schmid College faculty.

, professor of chemistry, and
Jason Keller, Ph.D.
, associate professor of biological sciences were both recognized as recipients of this honor for their outstanding achievement in teaching, scholarship, advising and service to the university.  Keller, who studies global change influences on wetland carbon cycling and greenhouse gas dynamics, was also recognized earlier in the week with induction into the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs’ “Million Dollar Club” for securing a nearly
$1.5 million Department of Energy (DoE) grant
that, “allows Chapman researchers to participate in the SPRUCE project by investigating the controls of the production and release of the greenhouse gas methane in this ecosystem.”

Melissa Rowland-Goldsmith, Ph.D.
, instructional assistant professor of molecular biology and deeply committed educator, was also recognized at this year’s Faculty Honors Convocation as a recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Teaching Award. This honor is the university’s highest faculty award in recognition of exceptional merit in teaching.
