The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) hosted the fourteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 14) at the India Expo Centre and Mart in New Delhi, India from September 2 – 13, 2019.
Director of the Computational and Data Sciences Master Program, Dr. Hesham El-Askary, shared his research and discussed the impact dust can have on health, green energy, marine environments, hurricane development, and water sources.
“Sand and dust storms (SDS) is an increasing phenomenon that severely affects over than 151 countries in Africa, Asia, North America, and Australia. That event along the COP14 meeting served as a platform to inspire and facilitate information exchange among various stakeholders and partners involved in SDS related issues from policy and decision making, implementation, science, experts to field practitioners and local communities. The outcome of our discussions was input to COP deliberations on SDS and in other related fora. At the end of that SDS day, a UN lead Coalition for Combating Sand and Dust storms was launched.” – Dr. Hesham El-Askary
