Are you looking for an intensive research or creative experience on campus? Then SURF is the program for you!

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) is a paid fellowship exclusively for Chapman undergraduate students who want to pursue independent research or creative projects on campus for eight (8) weeks over the summer, from June 17 to August 9, 2019.  The SURF package includes $4,000, on-campus housing during the program, weekly professional development workshops, faculty seminars, and social events with other SURF fellows.

Past SURF fellows can’t say enough good things about their experience. James Francese, a 2018 SURF fellow who researched complex mathematics, said: “The SURF Program was instrumental both the support and freedom I needed to start this line of research.”  Emily Cauble, who researched prostate cancer as a SURF fellow, said: “Researching with SURF taught me so much about myself and challenged me in ways I never had been before.”  Many past SURF fellows credit the program for giving them academic and career direction.

Want to learn more or have specific questions about the program?  Come to the Center for Undergraduate Excellence – 415 E. Walnut, next to the Residence Halls – on Tuesday, February 5th for an open information session. Mingle with past SURF fellows about their experience or ask CUE representatives about program details. Presentations will be given at the top of the hour from 10am to 4pm, but you can stop by anytime that fits your schedule!

SURF applications are due March 1, 2019, at 4:00 PM. Click here for more information and to apply now.
