Clay Thomas has won the 2012 Student Forum Paper Award given by the
American Sociological Association (ASA)
for his paper, “Disc Golfing: Disunity in the Struggle for Sport Legitimization.”  The honor comes with a cash prize and travel funds to the ASA annual meeting to be held in Denver, Colorado, August 17-20.

Working with P
rofessor Roberta Lessor
, Clay collected and analyzed data in the fall semester of 2011 in Sociology 401 (Field Research Methods) and followed up with an independent study in January, 2012 to complete the paper that he submitted to the ASA.  In addition to winning the 2012 ASA undergraduate student paper award, Clay was also accepted into the ASA Student Honors Program which takes place concurrently with the ASA annual meeting.
