Filmmakers, musicians, mavericks, and storytellers of all kinds will find today’s TEDx conference a compelling reason to stay (or return!) to Chapman campus this summer.

Promoter of icons from our techno-academic-media culture, the
TED series of free lectures
offers the public a unique look into the thoughts and behaviors of some of today’s best and brightest minds.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxChapmanU, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxChapmanU event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

From brief interviews with Bill Gates to epic monologues from Clay Shirky, on topics as diverse as
master storytelling
,
WikiLeaks
, the
Hurdy Gurdy
and more, a huge wealth of information is available in the TED cache of lectures, made freely available online for the public good.

And today, Chapman University professors, graduates, sponsors, and friends will join the cannon of celebrities speaking their minds in a open forum and exchange of ideas, right here on the Chapman campus.

Here’s a quick glimpse of the speakers at today’s event; you can

If you didn’t get a ticket (and we hear the wait list was very long – indicating that this inaugural year will indeed be only the first of many!), the entire event will be livestreamed (see the player, below).  Additionally, Dodge College student and guest blogger Christian Vieira will join nearly one thousand attendees later today in Chapman’s Memorial Hall to enjoy the lectures, and will be reporting back tomorrow with key highlights from the series.
