Dr. Nancy Cantor and Dr. Kal Alston

Syracuse University’s President and Chancellor, Nancy Cantor, and Vice President for Human Capital Development, Kal Alston will be visiting Chapman on Monday, September 24th, 2012. There will be a presentation and discussion on civic engagement between higher education and community entities. This event is sponsored by the Donna Ford Attallah Academy for Teaching and Learning (DFAATL) at Chapman University’s College of Educational Studies. The presentation and conversation with the Chapman community at large will take place from 5:00-7:00 pm, in Argyros Forum 209. Students, faculty, and the Chapman community at large are welcome to attend.

Chancellor Cantor and Dr. Alston have successfully provided a model for forming symbiotic relationships with community entities and initiating sustainable civic engagement through University and community partnerships. In doing so, they have helped redefine our understanding of how institutions of higher learning can better serve the common good through community-based initiatives and projects. More information on Chancellor Cantor can be found at her webpage.
As the DFAATL continues to pursue its primary mission of meaningful engagement with Chapman’s surrounding communities, we consider it a privilege to gain insights from the experiences that Drs. Cantor and Alston will share. We would greatly appreciate it if you are able to join the conversation.

Please RSVP to ces@chapman.edu if you will be attending. If you are unable to attend, please post any questions you would like to see addressed by Drs. Cantor and Alston with regard to the potential role of universities in addressing societal challenges below in the comments section.
