El Sol Science and Arts Academy Alum Receives Edison Scholarship and Has Perfect AP Score Edison Scholar from Santa Ana High School
May 19, 2016
Meet Noelí Zárate! Noeli, a former student of El Sol Science and Arts Academy, is a senior at Santa Ana High School and has reached great heights. Her performance on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam was so superior that it falls into a rather select category. Noelí not only received the top score of 5 on the exam but was one of 55 students in the WORLD to earn every point possible on the exam. There are 37 different AP exams given to millions of high school students around the world and her score was one of only 322 perfect scores last year on any AP test.
El Sol Science and Arts Academy of Santa Ana is an outstanding dual-immersion charter school. El Sol’s unique curriculum teaches students to read, write, and speak academic English and Spanish. It also runs a robust extended day program that offers supplemental academic instruction for struggling students and cultural enrichment activities in the areas of music, dance, spots, and math. The program stresses the relationship between early learning and early intervention in building a strong foundation for long-term educational success. As a result, El Sol students are bi-literate problem solvers, critical thinkers and active learners. Focus Areas: Early Learning, K-12 & College Access
Zárate was awarded with a $40,000 scholarship to pursue a college degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and MathScience). More than 900 students applied for this scholarship statewide, and only 30 were granted with it. There are only two Hispanic recipients in Orange County, and Noelí was one of the wonderfully deserving recipients. We also acknowledge Santa Ana High School for their ongoing success in their mission to provide rigorous student centered learning environments and equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for college and career readiness. The Spanish language program at Santa Ana High School continued to help develop Noelí’s bi-literacy to the Advanced Placement level. Although her choice of college has yet to be selected, we are proud of Noelí’s amazing accomplishments!
Congratulations Noelí Zárate!
