The faculty and students from the College of Educational Studies, BS in Athletic Training Program had numerous accomplishments at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association 65th Clinical Symposia and AT Expo this past week in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mr. Carl Wilkens is awarded the 2014 College of Educational Studies “Changing the World Award” for being an educational change agent and promoting democracy and social justice around the world. Mr. Wilkens is the former director of ADRA Rwanda and in 1994 was the only American who chose to remain in the country after the Rwanda genocide began against the advice of his family, his close friends, his church, the United States government, and even when the United Nations pulled out.
The College of Educational Studies invites you to attend the FRIENDS Who Stutter Workshop on Saturday May 10, 2014 from 9:30am – 4:30pm. his one-day workshop is designed to bring together young children and teenagers who stutter, their parents, members of stuttering self-help groups, and speech-language pathologists. Adults who stutter are also encouraged to join us.
I had the honor of attending the retirement celebration for Dr. Mike Madrid yesterday, and it was a wonderful example of this. Mike has provided Chapman’s College of Educational Studies with many years of leadership and friendship and has made personal connections with students as well as faculty; he sees our hearts and recognizes potential. Many generations of teachers experienced his personal approach to the work he does

My name is Dany Espinoza. I was born and raised in Santa Ana and graduated from Century High School. I decided to become a counselor in high school as a result of the guidance and support I received from my high school counselor, Tomas Hernandez. I attended CSUF and graduated with a BA in Psychology and minor in Human Services. In 2012, I received my MA in Counseling and PPS credential from Chapman University.
In support of autism awareness Chapman’s Attallah Piazza Fountain and Beckman Hall will be lit with blue lights for the month of April. On Wednesday April 2nd, wear blue to support World Autism Awareness Day, stop by the College of Educational Studies’ Communication and Sciences Disorders (CSD) and Counseling and School Psychology (CSP) hosted informational booth in the piazza, and at 12:00 p.m. join us in the Attallah Piazza for a group photograph so we can show the world how Chapman Lights It Up Blue!
Each year the Hart Vision Award for the California Charter Schools of the Year is announced at the annual California Charter Schools Association Conference. The 2014 California Charter School of the year is El Sol Science and Arts Academy located in Santa Ana, CA. The College of Educational Studies relies on El Sol for bilingual student teaching assignments as well as teacher candidate fieldwork activities. El Sol, in turn, has used the College of Educational Studies faculty for teacher and staff training.
Nou Vang, Integrated Educational Studies class of 2013, was awarded in May 2013 a Fulbright Scholar – English Teaching Assistantship in Taiwan for 2013-2014. In addition to being an IES major, Nou also holds minors in women’s studies and psychology. While at Chapman, she was a first-generation Promising Futures student, a residential advisor and active in numerous clubs and honor societies, including the national Society of Collegiate Scholars and Mortar Board.
Marisol Rexach, Ph.D. in Education student, responds to the Jan. 13, 2014 blog: “The Latest and Youngest donor to the CES – Michael Sallinger.” Michael Sallinger, the young boy featured on a recent CES blog for his donation to the Kathleen Muth Reading Center, is learning more than reading skills. This “pay it forward” opportunity has given him a chance to recognize the importance of unselfish giving.
I have been confronted with the reality of a Christian-centered academic calendar and how it privileges and marginalizes. While Christians are assured time off for religious observances, students of other faiths must make arrangements to complete missed assignments. In most cases, it is an accepted practice by all involved. However, when the issue of attendance is the focus, there are some serious inequities.
The 22nd Annual Children’s Book Illustrators’ Show and Signing at Chemers Gallery in Tustin went off without a hitch. The donation received from this event will support literacy programs in the College of Educational Studies. The original art is incredible, colorful and many are framed whimsically and coordinated just right to match the art.
