Environmental Science and Policy’s Joshua Fisher Named Highly Cited Researcher
November 17, 2023
For the sixth year in a row, Schmid College’s Joshua Fisher has been named a Highly Cited Researcher. Fisher is one of the world’s leading experts in the development and application of satellite remote sensing tools for observing and modeling ecosystem structure and function. His contributions to more than 200 research publications have been cited by the community more than 26,000 times.
Fisher is among 6,849 Highly Cited Researchers in 2023 from more than 1,300 institutions in 67 nations and regions. Fisher is among those selected as having an impact “across fields.”
The designation follows recent high-profile research studies from Fisher and his colleagues, including a study on tropical forest canopy temperatures that served as the cover story for the prestigious journal Nature in September.
At Chapman, Fisher has also been teaching the next generation of students how to use the same tools he uses in his own research. Students in his satellite remote sensing course, “Observing Earth from Above,” have been using data from NASA to follow environmental events in real time. Recent work by those students has already been featured by NASA.
Fisher joined the Chapman University faculty as an associate professor of Environmental Science and Policy in 2023, after spending two years at the university as a Presidential Fellow of Ecosystem Science.
