What is the Hidden Curriculum?

Integrated Educational Studies students Lauren Delgado, Marti McIntosh and Mattie MacKes conducted a presentation and policy brief on the topic of the hidden curriculum in education, a sociological concept as part of the course work for IES 206.

IES 206:  Schools in Society is a required course in the
Integrated Educational Studies program
(IES). In this course, students examine the history, sociology, and philosophies of education in the United States. In addition, the course reviews school formations, current policies and practices in education impacting student success, and the relationships between schools, their communities, and the larger society. As part of the class, students are asked to complete a research based, video presentation on a topic related to the course. The video presentation is accompanied with a written policy brief on the topic. Lauren Delgado, Marti McIntosh and Mattie MacKes are IES students who conducted their presentation and policy brief on the topic of the hidden curriculum in education, a sociological concept that was introduced in the course. This video presentation is exemplary of the quality of work produced by Chapman students in the IES program and models how educators might use digital tools in their own work.
