Chapman Faculty and Staff,

As part of our ongoing efforts to optimize our learning management system, we will be deleting the “Blackboard Archive” courses from Canvas.

Background: Six years ago, we successfully migrated course content from Blackboard to Canvas to make it easier for instructors to build out their courses. We also migrated all the old Blackboard “Organizations”, which became Canvas Panther Dens. This transition has allowed us to streamline our processes and enhance the overall teaching and learning experience. However, the archived course content dates back to Fall 2015 and needs to be removed to ensure our systems remain efficient and up-to-date.

Action Required: Please review your old Blackboard Archive courses in Canvas before June 9, 2025 and determine if there are any you wish to keep a record of. You can export the course content and save an archived copy in your OneDrive. This will ensure you have access to any materials you may need in the future.

How to Export Your Course:

  1. Log in to Canvas.
  2. Go to Courses in the left-hand menu and choose All Courses
  3. Scroll down to find courses tagged “Bb Archive”
  4. Navigate to the course you wish to export.
  5. Go to “Settings” in the course menu.
  6. Click on “Export Course Content.”
  7. You will see a progress bar go across the screen as your content is loaded into an export package. When the export is complete, you will see a link that says “New Export”. Click the “New Export” link.
  8. After you click “New Export” a dialog box will appear asking you where you want to save the file. From here you can save it wherever you like, such as a documents folder or your OneDrive account.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to maintain a high-quality digital learning environment. If you have any questions or need assistance with the export process, please do not hesitate to contact our Canvas support team at canvas@chapman.edu
