Getting program-specific career advising just got a whole lot easier for Crean College students. Meet Heidi Swanson, our new in-house career advisor conveniently stationed inside Crean Hall. Whether you’re a freshman just getting started or a senior about to graduate, take advantage of these services early and often. Use Handshake to book an appointment. No appointment, no problem. Heidi keeps drop-in office hours in the Crean Hall atrium at these times: Monday and Thursday 2:00 pm – 4:00pm, Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

During appointments, students can expect a tailored approach to their career interests and work through any topic they wish to explore. This can include resume, job or internship search, graduate school preparation, career paths, mock interviews, and so much more. Heidi also plans to host career events and expand internship and job opportunities for Crean students within the surrounding community.

But this new service is not just for students. Crean College faculty and staff can also look to Heidi for support. She can provide classroom presentations on career topics and be a point of contact for any community partners that want to engage Crean students. Heidi will also meet regularly with faculty and staff to solicit feedback on student interest trends and discuss any areas of career advising that need further development.

After earning her B.A. in Psychology at Cal State San Marcos, where she was an All-American athlete, Heidi went on to pursue her M.A. in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Minnesota State, Mankato. She made an important discovery here. She had a knack for helping other athletes develop the mental skills needed to achieve peak performance. This led her to work with peer mentors and eventually find fulfillment in career services. When she is not working, she enjoys going to the beach, exploring the outdoors, listening to music, and drinking her favorite beverage, cold-brew coffee!
