In Your Words: Dodge College at Sundance 2014
January 31, 2014
Chapman University film students
dominated
Sundance this year, raking in awards, critical acclaim, and enough learning experiences to last a lifetime.
Split across two sessions, to accommodate more students overall and tailor the experience for their discipline, our
travelling Interterm class “Structure/Function Film Festival Sundance”
brought two dozen students to the internationally renowned festival. Charged with taking in every aspect of the culture, business, and art of the Festival, our students document the trip through personal journals synthesizing their experiences.
As important as these journals are, my favorite aspect of the trip is the massive stream of photos, news, and updates the students share. Whether its delight at making a new connection with an alumnus at the annual Sundance Alumni Reception, seeing a mid-bending new film on the big screen, or learning how to successfully pitch your project to busy executives, our students and friends
love
to spread the word.
So take a look at the latest Sundance Film Festival, through the eyes of the Dodge College community!
Most of these photos and stories are directly from our students; head over to the awesome archive on our Storify profile to see way more than I can include here!
Of course, once the reviews started rolling in, it quickly became clear that Dodge College films were having a banner year:
The highlight of the trip, for many students and alumni, was the annual reception hosted by Alumni Coordinator Sorrel Geddes. It’s an informal mixer/networking opportunity, and always proves to be a hotbed of interesting connections and new friendships. Check it out:
All in all, it was another fantastic year of cinema immersion, with some amazing experiences for our students, and some well-deserved accolades for our alumni.
Thanks to everyone who sent in their photos and stories!
