Dr. Pattie Dillon Sobczak leaving Chapman University after 19 years
October 2, 2013
After 19 years at Chapman University, our friend and colleague Dr. Pattie Dillon Sobczak will be leaving Orange County for the East Coast. While completing her MLIS degree at University College, Pattie was a library intern, and then transitioned to working as a Librarian, Academic Advisor, Campus Director, and Interim Dean of Extended Education. Staying within the Chapman family, Pattie changed stations and became the Director of Development for the Leatherby Libraries and College of Educational Studies, which eventually became just CES. Pattie will be making a new home with her husband Bruce in Petersburg, Virginia, where he will be starting a new position as the Director of Workforce Development for the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM). Bruce, will help develop three innovation centers through collaborations with 23 community colleges, three major universities, the governor’s office, and some large national and international organizations to create advanced manufacturing training programs. Pattie commented, “for him, it is his dream job, and for me, the beginning of new adventures and opportunities.” Pattie’s last day at Chapman University will be Tuesday October 15, 2013.
College of Educational Studies,
Dean Don Cardinal
recently wrote, “Many of us have worked closely with Pattie, which is a statement to her openness and willingness to make the CES a culture of philanthropy, including everyone in the process. While this approach has been more work, it is the CES way and it is the way she approached her position. I will miss this about her and I know you will as well.”
In leaving Chapman University, Pattie spoke at her last CES faculty/staff meeting stating, “It is hard to believe (even for me!) that I am leaving Chapman University after 19 exciting and sometimes challenging years. I am very grateful to have been a member of the CES team as well as the teams from University Advancement and the Leatherby Libraries. I am honored to have worked with all of you. I will miss you!”
Please join the College of Educational Studies, Leatherby Libraries, and University Advancement in honoring Pattie Sobczak at her
