In collaboration with the Institute for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (IETL), student course evaluations are transitioning to a cradle-to-grave digital format.

In the past, students have been completing paper course evaluations in class near the end of each semester.  In terms of paper usage, it was estimated that the University was using over 100,000 sheets of paper per year, just for course evaluations.  Now, with a new software platform and an additional server installation, the hundreds of hours spent packing paper evaluations for delivery and scanning them for storage are becoming a distant memory.mobile-devices

On November 28th, students in all math, science, and computer science courses will receive an email for each course they are affiliated with, asking that they complete their evaluation online.  By clicking the link in the email, students will be able to use any device they wish to complete their evaluations as long as it is able to connect to the internet; this includes using their mobile phones.  All student responses remain completely anonymous and instructors will not be provided with the student feedback until after grades have been posted at the end of the semester.

It is important to note that we are beginning this transition with the classes in Schmid College of Science and Technology; additional classes will be added over the next two semesters until all classes have been moved to the new digital format.  For this semester, only the following course evaluations will be online: BIOL, BCHM, CHEM, CPSC, MATH, SE, FSN, EVN, CS, and PHYS.
