Duration: 1 hour

Summary

Did you know that only 1/3 of American students read proficiently and 54% of American adults read below the 6th-grade level? And around the world, reading is even less evenly distributed.

Research shows that reading perception varies by individual and that just as one person’s eyeglasses wouldn’t necessarily work for another person, one text format doesn’t work for everyone. When readers have the option to use a custom reading format, their reading improves, helping poor readers and good readers alike.

Rick Treitman, Entrepreneur in Residence at Adobe will talk about how Adobe is advancing the goal of improving reading for everyone. He’ll cover:

  • Liquid Mode in Acrobat Reader gives readers control over the formatting of text to help people read PDFs on mobile devices.
  • Adobe’s work to better understand how reading controls can help readers in partnership with Virtual Reading Lab at the University of Central Florida and with non-profits dedicated to better-reading including Readability Matters and Readworks.
