September 6, 2016
The end of August marked the beginning of the fall semester, and along with students moving in and preparing for classes, it also marked a week of exciting activities hosted by the
Leatherby Libraries
.
Candlelight Ceremony
The Leatherby Libraries hosted the Class of 1966
(50-Year Club)
for a reception prior to the candlelight ceremony.
Student Services Fair
On Wednesday, August 24th, the Leatherby Libraries participated in the on-campus festivities by hosting a table at the annual Student Services Fair. Giving away gifts and informational materials, librarians and library staff members spoke to incoming students and their families about library services ranging from hours and printing to liaison librarians, Inter library loan and events/exhibits.
Orientation Tours
During Orientation Week, new students receive tours of the Leatherby Libraries as part of their orientation experience. These tours focus on welcoming students to the building, explaining student services and how to find materials within the library. Orientation tours this year were a great success, thanks to all of the librarians and staff who volunteered their time to lead these student tours. We had approximately
1071 students
join us for library tours this year!
Student Success Display
Behind the reference desk is a new display with a selected sample of books focusing on student success. Geared towards achievement and productivity for college students, these books will help you start the semester off on the right foot. Whether you need a bit of help writing your paper or some guidance on college life as an incoming freshman, take a look at these books and check one out at the circulation desk!
Welcome Table
The Leatherby Libraries has set up its annual welcome table for the first week of school, welcoming students back to Chapman University. Librarians, library staff and library student assistants welcomed incoming and returning students into the library. Students enjoyed free refreshments and gifts throughout the week and were eager to talk to the staff about library services.
LL B14 Opening
Wednesday, August 24th marked the opening for the newly renovated LL B14 active learning classroom. Located in the lower level of the Leatherby Libraries, this newest on-campus technology-enabled active learning (TEAL) classroom is incorporating state of the art design principles, classroom AV, and virtual desktop technology, all in support of active student learning and engagement in the classroom.
The Leatherby Libraries is very excited to host this new space which is set to have the same operational hours as the library. Thanks to
Information Systems & Technology
department for all their hard work this summer on making this wonderful space available to Chapman University students.
