Book cover for Presidents and the American Presidency
Lori Cox Han, Professor of Political Science
, is the author of a new textbook on the American presidency. “Presidents and the American Presidency,” co-authored by Diane J. Heith of St. John’s University and published by Oxford University Press, provides an exploration of both the political institution and the men who have held the office. Through the incorporation of archival documents throughout the book, discussions move beyond purely theoretical analysis to examine the real-life, day-to-day responsibilities and challenges that go with the job of president. The inclusion of original White House documents and memos helps to reveal the inner workings of the White House and animates the discussions from the perspective of recent presidents and other political actors. To date, Dr. Han has conducted research at eleven of the twelve presidential libraries that are part of the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration
