The Model United Nations delegation from Chapman University participated in the National Model UN conference in New York from April 1-5, 2012. This conference attracts 5000+ delegates from around the world to discuss pressing global issues. Chapman students were split up into different committees, representing the positions of South Africa on several topics including human trafficking, sustainable development, and the rights of indigenous peoples. To complement their extensive research, students also visited the Permanent Mission of South Africa to the United Nations for an exclusive briefing. At the conference’s closing ceremony after 5 days of meeting simulation, caucusing, resolution drafting, and a UN visit, Chapman University students received a “Distinguished Delegation” award–an award recognizing delegations whose members excelled throughout the week in their ability to remain in character, participation in committee, and demonstrated skills in diplomacy.

Congratulations!
