is pleased to be hosting Dr. Ronald L. Farmer (Adjunct Professor of Religious Studies at Brandman University) speaking in a lecture titled, Imagination and the Art of Interception: Reading Scripture and Tradition for the Sake of the World, on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 4 p.m., followed by a reception, in the Fish Interfaith Center.

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Rethinking a religion involves the all-important act of interpretation, a process that is as much an art as it is a science. Depending on how the process is conceived, the outcomes vary widely. This lecture will examine the re-conceptualization of the interpretative process by means of a hermeneutical lens derived from Alfred North Whitehead’s understanding of language and perception, and then illustrates is with an analysis of the Genesis creation stories.

This event is free and open to the public and sponsored by Francis Lectureship and the Department of Religious Studies.
