One of Chapman University’s art faculty, Dr. Leopardi, is presenting a paper at the Annual Meeting of the Art Historians of Southern California Association. In Leopardi’s “Beyond Glittering Adornment: The Occult Magical Virtue of Engraved Gems in Sixteenth Century Italy,” she discusses the magic and apothropaic function behind the beauty of precious stones in Renaissance portraits.
