Studio Art Majors Show Their Work At Advocate & Gochis Galleries
June 6, 2012
Junior Studio Art majors,
Kellan Shanahan
and
Andy Macasil
, have been given their own exhibition at the
Advocate & Gochis Galleries
of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center of West Hollywood (the largest LGBT organization in the world).
The rich, female nude-style paintings of Andy Macasil investigate self-representation and examine components of masculinity in its usage of a particular sub-genre of gay culture: “chubs” and “bears”.
The larger -then-life wood sculptures of Kellan Shanahan address the relationship between identity and Western Ideology, challenging the established tropes of traditional figurative sculpture and pulling apart the culture rhetoric in which they partake.
The exhibition will be curated by Chapman’s very own Professor Lia Halloran.
You can show your support by attending the opening or visiting the exhibition while it runs June 7 – July 6, 2012 (free opening reception, June 7, 7-9 p.m.).
Location: The Village at Ed Gould Plaza, 1125 N. McCadden Place, Los Angeles, CA 90038.
