An Exhibition of Senior BA and BFA Studio Art Students
April 12, 2013
Guggenheim Gallery is pleased to present hi/real [ˌhaɪpəˈrɪəl], a group exhibition comprising a nexus of works by six Senior BA and BFA Studio Art students: Aja Clum, Koriel Kruer, Danielle McVey, Rachel Oh, Teal Thomsen and Kristi Underwood, Monday, April 15 – Friday, April 19, 2013 in the Guggenheim Gallery 12-5 p.m. (opening reception on Monday, April 15 2013 from 6-9 p.m. featuring a special music performance by Casey Wyman in Flaboheim, the upstairs gallery.).
As products of today’s hi/real culture, the featured artists attempt to gravel with the universal idea of truth, which seems to have been lost. If one were to follow the path laid out by Jean Baudrillard, one might reach the conclusion that truth is now merely simulations of reality; and these simulations are just as accurate and authentic as the reality being simulated. Even at this very moment, the present volleys in between reality and simulacra; however, they are no longer distinguishable.
The works featured in hi/real [ˌhaɪpəˈrɪəl] aim to blur the line between reality and art. What is real? What is art? What is life? Who cares? WTEVR.
The featured artists simply plea for their viewer to use their works as a kind of existential channel to acknowledge the duality of reality and artificiality.
