On July 19 – 21, 2013, sociology alumna Toshiko Joy Ito (’47), flew to to Cody, Wyoming with her son, Judge Lance Ito and his wife Peggy; to attend the Heart Mountain Concentration Camp’s Pilgrimage 2013 where former inmates, (including T. Ito ), and their family and friends held a reunion at the Heart Mountain Camp’s Interpretive Learning Center, that was built there and opened in 2011.

“This year we are dedicating and naming the museum’s garden, the James O. Ito V3 Garden: V3 stands for the end of WWII, the challenges of farming inhospitable land, and upholding everyone’s constitutional rights. James, my late husband, was assistant superintendent of agriculture, since he had a B.S. degree in  agronomy.  He helped map out and clear 150 acres to grow vegetables to feed the 10,000 plus inmates.  Before the internees grew the vegetables their meals consisted mostly of unpalatable canned foods,” said T. Ito.
