Russian Ukraine and the Importance of Crimea: March 18

, is holding a panel discussion regarding Russia, Ukraine, and the importance of Crimea on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 and you are invited to attend in Argyros Forum at 5:30 p.m.
Speaking at the event will be Alan Ellis, President of the Portland-Khabarovsk Sister City Association (and will be leading a sister delegation to Khabarovsk this coming May).
Mr. Ellis attended San Carlos High School, where he was among the first group of Bay Area high school students to complete a four-year course in Russian language study. He attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, where he graduated with a double-major in Russian and Political Science and went on to earn a Master of Education degree (also at Willamette U.). Mr. Ellis taught Russian and Social studies on the high school level in Portland, Oregon, for more than 30 years, which included a decade-long student exchange program with a sister school in Khabarovsk, Portland’s sister city in the Russian Far East. Over the years, he has traveled extensively in Russia, from the Russian Far East to European Russia, and served as a translator/consultant in the making of a documentary film about the history of the boreal forest region surrounding Lake Baikal. Upon retirement from full-time teaching, Mr. Ellis worked for 8 years as an adjunct instructor in the Graduate Education Department at Portland State University.
